Why did Roblox remove the OOF?
The famous 'oof' sound effect has been removed from Roblox. Roblox announced the news on their social media, saying: "due to a licensing issue we have removed the "oof" sound from Roblox and have created a replacement default sound which launches today."
A tweet (opens in new tab) from Roblox cites "a licensing issue" as the reason behind removing the sound. It's also created a replacement sound, and wow it sure is a sound effect alright. Instead of "oof" we now have "deh," which sounds more like you've just stepped in a puddle than popped your clogs.

Tommy Tallarico is the composer of the oof sound; Tallarico is a game composer and, more recently, the CEO of Intellivision. The oof sound comes from Messiah (2002) and was licensed to Roblox; anyone using it in their Roblox experiences would have to pay one dollar (or 100 Robux.)
The "oof" was removed from the game as a result until Tallarico and Roblox reached an agreement to reintroduce it, but at a roughly $1 cost for creators.
But it comes from the end of a game called Messiah, which came out in 2000. A Twitter user named Buur first pointed out the similarity. And the sound file shows that the 0.34-second sound originated in September 1999 with credit to an engineer named Joey Kuras.
Why did Roblox remove guests? The main reason Roblox decided to remove the guest feature was that it was being used primarily to spoil other players' enjoyment. Though there were some genuine beginners playing as Roblox guests, it was experienced Roblox players who used the guest feature to evade bans.
Since then, Roblox users have had to pay a fee of $1 to use the sound effect in their created games, and Tallarico agreeing to work with Roblox going forward to make other sound effects. Something may have gone wrong in the agreement between the two parties, hence why the "oof" sound effect was removed from Roblox.

It looks like Roblox wasn't willing to pay the licensing fee in order to keep the sound in the game, or perhaps Tallarico wasn't willing to license it to them anymore. Either way, you can still purchase the Oof sound, among many other sound effects, from Tallarico's official website, should you wish to.
