How do you find a lost dragon egg in Minecraft?
Only the first ender dragon killed will spawn the egg, so the only ways to get it again are either to reset the end or using cheats.
The issue is... If the egg is not collected from the pedestal, and you try revive Ender Dragon with an Egg still on top of the pedestal, the Dragon Egg dissapears forever.
The dragon egg can be considered the rarest block due to the fact that it only spawns once per world. The dragon egg will sometimes fall into void when teleporting.
If the dragon egg is destroyed, it respawns in the End.
If the egg goes through the portal, it will appear at X= 0, Y=0 (the spawn point for the world). If you want to be here, then feel free to send it through the portal. If you do not want this, then cover up the portal with blocks and move it with the first method below.
Unfortunately, adding the dragon egg to your inventory and trying to hatch it in the overworld isn't possible in the base game, and you'll need to install a mod to add that ability to Minecraft. In other words, dragon eggs can only be hatched if you're playing a modded game.
The dragon egg can be destroyed by explosions. I have only tested it with creepers and TNT but both of these completely obliterate the egg. I have confirmed it does not teleport anywhere, drop as an item ever, it's always 100% removed.
If the highest block is at the height limit, then the dragon egg does not spawn.
The Dragon Egg, a decorative, egg-shaped block. You can only get one from each world. You obtain it after beating the Ender Dragon in the End. You cannot get another one from beating the Ender Dragon a second time, but I implore you to try!
Mechanics. Clicking on the egg will cause it to teleport to a nearby area (up to five blocks vertically and fifteen blocks horizontally) and create the same teleport Particles seen around Endermen, Nether Portals, Endermites, and Ender Chests.
What is the Ender Dragon's name?
8 Her Name Is Jean
That being said, the developers have played around with naming the dragon before, stating that she might be called "Jean", as the main character of the game is called "Steve."
Sources. The Active Void Egg can only be activated once a Void Egg is in the players inventory, and the player leaves a Space Station or Anomaly and uses the pulse drive within a Star system. The player will be notified to drop out of Pulse and then will encounter a deep-space creature which then activates the egg.
Finally, as the others already pointed out, if you don't kill the Dragon there won't be a portal back to the Overworld, so you'll only be able to go back by dying. However, you can still keep all the loot, which is what makes this really useful for early in game.
The player can also survive in the void by having Regeneration or Instant Health of a sufficient level (achievable only by commands). If commands are used to make the player invincible or bestow infinite health, the player falls until Minecraft crashes.
Any time you try to pick up the ender dragon egg, it'll vanish and reappear somewhere else.
The Dragon Egg is an ultra-rare item simply because it cannot be crafted or found in any chest loot or through any trading or bartering. Only when the Ender Dragon dies does it spawn atop the bedrock fountain. However, taking and using the rare egg is a bit tricky.
To obtain the Dragon Egg you have to make it fall on a non-solid block (often a torch), as hitting it with a pickaxe or item makes it teleport away.
You cannot get another dragon egg in your world without cheating. Dragon eggs have no practical benefit and they exist solely for cosmetics, but even so, respawning the ender dragon does not spawn another dragon egg.
